Luna, I totally get what you are saying about the sleep apnea – I was diagnosed with it several years ago.

At first the mask was annoying in the extreme, and I stopped using it for a while. It seemed to me that I was actually MORE tired when I used it than when I slept without (only later did I realize it was because my sleep-deprived body was screaming “MORE SLEEP! GO BACK TO BED!). It wasn’t until I started having apnea-related narcoleptic attacks that I started wearing it again, and I have never stopped.

The few times my machine has broken, and I have had to go a few days without it, I have found some things that tend to help a bit with the breathing:

    1) Sleep in a mostly upright position – like in a laz-e-boy recliner. The airway stays open easier if you are upright.

    2) Keep a fan blowing in your face, on high. This causes a slight increase in air flow that can help keep your airway open.

    3) DON’T take muscle relaxants before sleeping – the relaxing causes the airway to collapse faster than normal.

I do hope these tips help, and heck, if I had the funds, I would send you some $$$ in a heartbeat for a sleep study. No one should have to go without a CPAP machine if it is needed!!!

A pumpkin face with a ball gag? OMG, you have GOT to show a pic of that! You know I am on SparkPeople hon, anytime you wanna chat, vent or whatever, or if I can help any, just ask or let me know. As for the weight thing, been there, done that..all my life until about 4 1/2 years ago when I buckled down and finally got serious about getting healthier. I know I am not telling you anything you don’t already know, but, there is not just one right way or even two or three…different strokes for different folks as they say. But if you find something that works for you..go for it hon. I’m here cheering you on! YEAH LUNA!

i’d love to see the gagged pumpkin, too ~ that sounds hilarious!

Kudos to you for getting back on the weight loss wagon. i just started a new campaign with Daddy’s help, too, so i’m right in there with you. 110 lbs to lose by our anniversary next year… whew! That’s alot. And i loathe doing anything that makes me sweat (and isn’t sex or pain! lol why can’t exercise pain be yummy pain???) so i’m mostly relying on calorie counting. Fun, fun. :)

I know how you feel with being overweight and the bloating and crap. I’ve been way overweight since a few months after giving birth to my daughter (yeah, I put the weight on after… go figure), and I’ve had problems with water retention since then too. It really sucks.

I know it’s not the foods I eat because I eat mainly healthy foods and I really don’t eat that much. There are days when I have to force myself to eat because I just don’t feel like eating. Sometimes I wonder if part of my problem is that I just don’t eat enough. I went on a prescribed diet once and had to stop because I couldn’t keep up with all the eating. LOL

I think my problem is the lack of exercise, though. I just can’t get motivated and I used to be really athletic too, so it upsets me. I tried going for a walk every morning for a couple of weeks, but I always ended up in so much pain it wasn’t worth it. I’d come home and wouldn’t be able to do much of anything else that day.

Anyway… congrats on your podcast interview. That’s really cool. I actually had my first author interview a few weeks ago and I was so nervous about it, but it went really well. Good luck!

Luna, I am supporting you again on the weight loss it is hard, but you can do it. My son has been walking since I had my right kidney removed….That was in Feb. he has lost over 90 pounds, lost 10 inches off his waist..I am so proud of him, he watches what he eats, and yes he still hangs with his friends and eats burgers and fries, and pizza, but then he walks over 8 miles after, to even it all out.

So it can be done……its a dream of his not to ever be sick like his mom. I know I am rattling on…and you know what you need to do, I have watched you on here before, losing the weight.

GHood Luck, God Bless……..I m rooting for you all the way!

    Go Luna….Go Luna…..Go Luna…….Go Luna……Go Luna…….Go Luna….

They say 90% of snoring and sleep apnoea problems can be fixed simply by losing weight.

    Good luck with it all!

P.S I’d like to jump on my soap box and suggest that ‘doing a diet’ isn’t the best thing and that changing your lifestyle for the long-term is the only sustainable thing, but I won’t. Everyone is different and what works for some people doesn’t work for others, so I’ll just shut up instead :)

Have you tried exercising with resistance bands? I find that they can really help me to stretch out my back and feel a good bit of relaxation without the soreness. You can do a lot of the exercises from an upright position sitting in a chair.

    Good luck.
