For some of you, this will be an unusual post. I am about to rant. I’ve not done that here, but maybe twice so please, feel free to be shocked, bewildered, and chuckle. ‘Cause deep down inside, I’m doing it too.
Nothing exciting here this time I’m afraid. I’d like to just vent about the newspaper delivery person. Two weeks ago, I signed up for the paper, 7 days a week, for a class that I have. That meant I was to get a paper every single day. Now mind you the first week we great. Last week however failed miserably. I received only 3 out of the supposed 7 I was supposed to get. So yesterday morning I called to complain, and swiftly got it set up that I was to get all my back issues with my paper yesterday. Great! I got them, now I have a ton of reading to do, and hopefully the paper issue was solved.
Wrong. Today I have no paper. I called to complain, informed them I wanted the carrier to bring today’s paper with tomorrow’s and that if I have to call again I will be speaking to the manager of my area. I’m kinda peeved. You would think that you deliver a paper to a house, you know they have a subscription, but why bother going there everyday? Is it selective choice? “Hmmm, I don’t want to walk up those stairs today.” For Pete’s sake, the newspaper drop off for the carrier is directly across the street at the Post Office. How hard is it to add me to the route? So I’m annoyed, not only for the added reading and the difficulty discussing issues in class because of this, but because I have an absent-minded carrier.
(For those of you that think it may be a child and allowed some leeway, he’s not. He’s old enough to know how to deliver papers correctly and according to the paper has been doing this route for 4 years.)
Another annoyance I have is with online newspapers. I have an online subscription to the NY Times as required for this same class. I just hate reading newspapers online, staring at the screen and it’s not easy to find what you need to read. Secondly, I’m a tactile reader. I prefer to touch what I am reading, follow with my finger occasionally and highlight, underline and comment in margins. That’s just the way I read. An online paper is an annoyance. Why do we have an online subscription instead of a paper version? Well, they don’t deliver to this area, so if I want the substantial discount for being a student, I need to get the onine version. Ugh. So more staring at the fine newsprint online, every day. Not exactly fun.
Well, I’m off… gotta read a week’s worth of papers for class tomorrow. Thank you *very much* Mr. delivery boy.
